If it was offside (not offsides, why do Americans always say that?) "by a good foot or so" as you say, then try to freeze the picture at some point that shows Poulin's skates across the line and the puck not. At :32 and :43. I tried, but I couldn't. If you can't prove that it's offside with the benefit of replay, then how can you rip on the officiating?
by the way as a young boy only 7 years old watching Canada Russia summit series with my father I listened to my father speak respectfully about the Russian players. In my father's mind Valery Kharlamov was the best player in the tournament. But, he would not have been had Bobby Orr been healthy - all who know hockey accept this. If Orr played, and Canada chose a goalie other than Dryden, the outcome would have been much more one-sided.
yeah and if the refs had that luxury to look back and something that you can't even see that clearly by going over it repeatedly. I love it: when the Russians win they are the best, most dominate, but when they lose its the refs and officiating. Well, They lost 72, 76,84,91. They won in 81 and you know what Canadians recognized it and made a trophy for them and sent it to them. You think you'd see that from the Russians - FUCK NO WAY. TOO much like all of Europe so better than everyone else.
I think anyone who supports Russia always blames the officiating when the lose. And, have you read Tretiak's book "Tretiak The Legend", what a bunch of bunk. Clearly political and not even hockey related. HE blames the poor, drab rooms of the olympic village for the loss in 80 to USA. Go look at the goals in 87 cup. In the third game the Russians 4th goal was a hook on Ray Borque, but you don't hear about that, you only here about the hook on a defenseman on the last goal. Wouldn't have mattered
Too bad Dave Poulin was offsides by a good foot or so...I'm always amazed how Canada's social graces go in the toilet when it comes to hockey. The officiating that would follow later that summer, in the '87 Canada Cup, was even more of an embarrassment.

It sure looks like it . . . it's pretty damn close. I can't freeze it at any point that shows Poulin across the line and the puck not, though.

Uh, a little offside perhaps?

Why did not you put all the goals together?
