(A Chamine is a maid-wife who in Trinidadian East Indian culture, takes care of the newborn baby and mother for the Barahi which is a celebration of the child's birth! She rubs the belly of the mother and drags the baby in a "soup" which, in the days of rice cultivation was used for fanning the rice. The Barahi celebration is usually very lively and involves dancing and singing, all to celebrate the welcoming of the baby into the family.)
