99.9% of the time there is another Aircraft that is carrying a TALD or an ITALD (Tactical Air Launched Decoy) they jettison the decoy and it takes off (like a missile at first then glides in a straight path) the 2nd Aircraft lets the TALD get distance then fires the AIM-120, AIM-9m/x or any other Air Intercept Missile at the TALD. They rarely shoot at drones, way to expensive..

Drones most likely. They're militarized versions of R/C aircraft. Larger than toys and painted orange for high visibility.
That, or old decommissioned fighters now relegated to being used as target practice. The F4 Phantom has been used extensively for this purpose. Strap on radio controls for it, and it's good to go. Although, I'd wish instead of them destroying it, they'd let me have one.
