Chorus:
Ah, for just one time I would take the Northwest Passage
To find the hand of Franklin reaching for the Beaufort Sea;
Tracing one warm line through a land so wild and savage
And make a Northwest Passage to the sea.
Westward from the Davis Strait 'tis there 'twas said to lie
The sea route to the Orient for which so many died;
Seeking gold and glory, leaving weathered, broken bones
And a long-forgotten lonely cairn of stones.
(chorus)
Three centuries thereafter, I take passage overland
In the footsteps of brave Kelso, where his "sea of flowers" began
Watching cities rise before me, then behind me sink again
This tardiest explorer, driving hard across the plain.
(chorus)
And through the night, behind the wheel, the mileage clicking west
I think upon Mackenzie, David Thompson and the rest
Who cracked the mountain ramparts and did show a path for me
To race the roaring Fraser to the sea.
(chorus)
How then am I so different from the first men through this way?
Like them, I left a settled life, I threw it all away.
To seek a Northwest Passage at the call of many men
To find there but the road back home again.
(chorus)

Good grief, we can be patriotic without having to bash Americans.

You will find that being patriotic to any nation absolutely must include bashing America. It's a rule.

In my city,(Toronto), the mass grave of the famine victims is heartbreaking. Then to add to the misery that is the Celtic destiny, the Civil War consumed even more as Irish fought Irish in another land so far from home. Study (Maryes Heights) and (Malverne Hill), of 1862. In those days Gaelic warriors screamed at each other in that fratricidal mess! Have an old war song>>"Bluegrass-Johnson Boys"<<

Check out the song, 'Oh Cascadia' on Youtube. It's a song written about the region of the world I live in. Northwest California, the Oregon Coast and British Columbia. It's wonderfully beautiful here. Race the roaring Fraser to the sea my friend! You won't regret it!

As an Irishman I must say that the more I learn and see about Canada the more impressed I am, Canada seems to have retained things that the rest of the world has lost......Stans heart rending song epotimises this better than I ever could.

Thanks Jon. I first heard this song in Grand Marais, MN which is about 60ml to the Canadian border and I think 150ml from the border to Thunder Bay, Ontario. Oh, and there are a lot of us Americans that like Canada and Canadians. The more I got to know about Canada I realized the stereotypes have some foundation in truth but Canadians and Canada have a lot more aspects that us Americans miss completely.
