So this is the Steves/Savage 350 Pump all done up on the outstanding Air Dry Flat Dark Earth Cerakote. The process was done from dis-assembly to re-assembly in only 24 hours and as you can see the final product turn out great.

I keep preaching to your guys and gals that Air Dry Cerakote is the way to go when it comes to refinishing your firearms and keeping it the cost down. The Cerakote is very durable, in fact more durable than most gun finishes I have encountered and its simple and easy to apply.

Let me know what you think.

  • I will do this. Hmmm, now which gun to do it to?

With the F-O tube all I did was cut the area around the tube that is heated and smeared to keep it in place to allow the tube to slide back out of the front post. Then after I painted I put it back on and apply some heat to it to soften it up and then simply smeared it again to catch it in place. Luckily mine has a bit of play back and forth so there was material to cut and re melt.

I stripped the receiver and barrel down to bare metal the old fashion way with 180 grit sandpaper. After I had nothing more than shinny metal I washed the parts with dawn and water and dry it on the oven for 30 minutes at 250F.

Then took them off the oven and hung them in my work area and wiped them down with some acetone to make sure there was no oil left before painting and then simply do as many coats as you feel are necessary. I painted until the letters were barely visible.

  • You stripped off the original Parkerized finish? Down to bare metal?

Chemical or blast? What did you use in either process?

How did you mask off, or remove, the F-O tube on the front sight?

    Thanks in advance.
