ANIME: Last Exile (2003)
OST : Last Exile OST2 (2003)
[audio]

Last Exile (ラストエグザイル, Rasuto Eguzairu?) is a steampunk anime directed by Koichi Chigira for the anime studio Gonzo Digimation. It ran on TV Tokyo from April to September, 2003. It was brought to American audiences through Tech TV's (now G4) television program Anime Unleashed in March 2004. It ended in December of the same year, with a full season marathon on Christmas Day. In Canada, it began to air on the digital channel G4TechTV Canada on July 22, 2007, at 8 p.m. ET/PT.

The animation features a combination of 2-D and 3-D CGI sequences; several key staff members such as the character designer Range Murata and Gonzo veteran Mahiro Maeda had previously worked on the production of Blue Submarine No. 6 which was done in a similar style.

The series is also notable for having much of the text in English but written with Greek letters, with all numbers given in Roman numerals, though longer sections of visible text use actual Greek.

  • delphine smiles less after throat crushed

  • @DarkRaven4649 It doesn't have to be obvious, just not easily missable.

    Maybe a him without his makeup in the final wrapup scenes so the audience is "Who the hell is that?! Oh wait, was that Dio?"

    That would have been kind of cool. Still, its no big deal.

  • @DarkLordVegeta There is a brief, easily missable part at the end where you can hear his voice. In the machine room of the Silverna, IIRC. And not everything needs to be made obvious in a show.

  • @DarkLordVegeta Yeah, I agree. Oh well, Exile is still one of my favorite steampunks of all time.

  • @DonTheCritic Then it should have been in the series. If you don't put it in, we won't know its there.

  • @DarkLordVegeta Actually, Dio lives according to the creators of Last Exile. Apparently, he's picked up by another ship in the Grand Stream.

  • @DonAgalloch I actually thought the series picked up when the guild was introduced, giving the series an engine. Delphine's death, while anticlimatic, gave Alex the exact satisfying heroic end I was awaiting.

    I think the worst death in the series was actually Dio's. There was no reason to kill him the way they did. What's worse is it really detracted from Luciola's (I'll admit it) beautiful death.

  • "She was looking at us dying... she was smiling... Maestro Delphine!" CROCK!

    Alex ;__;

  • Awesome series!
