ESTOPA - Om El Arab Mare

ESTOPA (1965 - 1993) was bred by Mr. Osuna Escalera in Spain and purchased by Om el Arab in 1970 to become one of Europe's Most Influential Mares of the Century.

Bred to the Egyptian stallion SHAKER EL MASRI, ESTOPA changed Arabian breeding history forever. Together, they produced five magnificent representatives of the breed: ESTASHA, ESTAWA, EL SHAKLAN, IBN ESTOPA and ESTARA -who not only became successful in the show ring, but turned out to be great producers.

After SHAKER EL MASRI passed away, ESTOPA kept producing high-quality foals with different stallions:

- BINT ESTOPA and ESTOPA SON, both sired by ESTOPA's legendary son: EL SHAKLAN.

- ESTOPASAN and RASTANO IBN ESTOPA, both sired by the Spanish National Champion RASTANO, who had also been bred by Mr. Osuna Escalera.

- MALIKAH ESTOPA, the only pure Spanish daughter of Estopa, sired by one of GALEROS's best sons: AN MALIK.

- OM EL SHAINA, an incredibly beautiful and typed mare, sired by the World Champion Stallion CARMARGUE.

- OM EL BENEERA, the last daughter of Estopa, sired by the King of the Ring, SHAREM EL SHEIKH.

With limited footage of Estopa, this is a delightful tribute to a fabulous mare. I got to meet her in 1987 and would rather "name-drop" meeting Estopa than any human celebrity on the planet. :)  She's unique and, God knows, uniquely significant to the Arabian Horse breed throughout the world. Thank you, Sigi, for an unforgettable experience.

I was blessed to own one of her great-great?-granddaughters (an Anglo Arab) named Princess Shaklann (d. 2007), sired by Caliph). I welled up when I watched this and El Shaklan's tributes; I swear I can see just a wee bit of my most beloved mare, my heart, there in her "grandcestors" (especially in Estopa's long face!). Thank you for posting these!
