I can't tell if this guy is genuine or it's a gimmick.

The phrase is regularly shortened to the idiom 'the proof is in the pudding'. This idiom has been shortened so regularly that it has become an idiom in its own right.

It is unheard of to take the basis of your argument from a book and then act like it was your own coherent thought.

Do you mean 1984 the book/movie? Then, no. It is not unheard of for two different people to have the same thought.

That may be the case and makes more sense, but I've never heard anyone say that either... I've only heard 'proof is in the pudding' as Flula says in the video. So if that's all he's heard, how is he supposed to know it's 'supposed' to be "the EATING of the pudding'?

You literally stole this entire comment from 1984.

He definitely knows he's funny, so it's a gimmick. Why would he keep making these videos? Anyway, gimmick or not, he is freakin' hilarious!
