-WHO: Burbank turns 100!!!

- WHAT: Centennial party

WHEN: FRI JULY 8, 5PM-10PM

-WHERE: "Beautiful Downtown Burbank "
The city of Burbank -- the brunt of Johnny Carson's jokes for years -- turns one hundred on July 8th -- there will be a big free community party but more importantly it's a city with a long, colorful, and progressive history.

Formed from two large Spanish land grants, it was a dentist, Dr. David Burbank who opened up the region when he sold Southern Pacific Railroad the right of way thru his land for ONE DOLLAR! Burbank became the home to fledgling industries -- Moreland Trucking, Lockheed Aircraft, and of course the MOTION PICTURE and TELEVISION businesses starting with First National Pictures, then Warner Bros, Columbia, Disney, NBC et al. Celebrities from Debbie Reynolds (Burbank High graduate and Miss Burbank 1948), Tim Burton, Helen Hunt, Ron Howard to Elijah Wood and Blake Lively call Burbank home. Today it is a major modern tourism, entertainment and commerce center that continues its growth and forward thinking.

The Centennial celebration is an ideal time to interview Mayor Jess Talamantes on what the future holds for the city, what they have learned from the past and what their progressive past has taught them...and of course invite readers to the big FREE party on July 8th. Members of the historical society and other Burbank notables can provide colorful stories and anecdotes
