American artist Sylvia Fein's collection and analysis of the drawings of her daughter from (from 2-16 years old) was first published in 1976 under the title Heidi's Horse. Still in print, the book has had a major influence on child development specialists concerned with the process through which young children create their own representations of the world as part of normal cognitive, emotional, and social development. In this brief video, Sylvia discusses the earliest stages of drawing seen in all children. For comments about hand use in early cognitive development, see http://bit.ly/fWBFlf .
