ANTIQUES ROADSHOW - Dumb Guy Thinks its Mayan

Guy thinks it's real & thinks it's Mayan until the appraiser points out the obvious. There is no way it can be Mayan. Mayans never had anything like this. It's usually something they sell to tourist.

Yes, I would know. My family is near that region plus I have fake stuff that when I buy it or given, I know it's fake. Most people in the region sell that to the tourist bc they believe whatever it is. Also, someone being an archeologist doesn't mean shit. Read my blog for more info.

I used to see kids selling oxidized brass or copper bells to the beach tourists in Puerto Vallkarta. They'd say the bells were from a Spanish shipwreck, hundreds of years old.
Reality: newly made reproductions that have been pee'd on to make them turn that nice green patina color.
I think there will always be gullible tourists. Perhaps it's because they are not really travelers, they are just vacationers.
