Madura in Madurai district is one of the oldest cities of India on the Vaigai river. Known for its nine gopura pyramids and many other sites, such as the Meenakshi temple shown here. Compare the loincloth inhabitants with the modern city it has become now!

  • "Some places seep into you, leaving a part of themselves running through your veins and forever changing you." - This is so true, Mic... I spent all my teenage yrs in Madurai... Now I've moved away but that feel will live in my blood forever. Thanks a lot for sharing this rare video!.. By the way, one thing that we had in common were the gold flake cigarettes ;)... Cheers!!

  • @AshRaj299 Correction:I never smoked cigarettes or anything else! That's why I'm still alive!

  • Really it was incredible for which it depicts trouble free walks of cultural life. Here a question arises that we might have keeping the nectar city without disturbed . Regards. Nellai s.s.mani@gmail.com

  • @MichaelRogge Guess I mistook you to be the admin of this page from where I got this video... vintageasian. com/499-madurai-1945 ... It says " I spent countless evenings on my rooftop, smoking Gold Flake cigarettes and staring at the massive Meenakshi Temple towers"... Anyways I've quit smoking now, hoping to live beyond 70 or so!!
