I've seen those on trees here in east TN.

Lichens on the trees what that is
-
lichens are a algae and a fungus that sort of "form" one organism, they dont look like much but they are pretty amazing when you check em out closer, some of the larger saucer sied ones can be 50+ years old. they can even break rocks down into soil to creathe new ecosystems on bare rock. hey are a really underappreciated group

Nice area, I plan to be there in the spring. BTW- they are Lichens on the trees. Very beautify plants.

There are so many types but each is distinctive enough to identify but you need a book. Sorry !

Hello Ed! like the place where you went camping! As for those sploches on them trees, we got them on the trees around here too in Brazil.Though I´m not a scientist, I know they are types of algae and plant colonies that can only develop in areas where the enviroment is really clean, with no polutionetc. That´s used here to measure how clean and pure the air and the whole enviroment around is! Ive seen them on rocks too, near well preserved waterfalls and such!5*****

wow... thanks. It's very nice to hear that it's an indicator of a clean environment.
