Quatermass 1979 (Episode 4, Part 1)

Staggered, dazed and confused, Quatermass is the sole survivor of the alien attack on Wembley Stadium. The extraterrestrial beam is now attacking so often that debris from all the bodies is filling the sky, leaving it discoloured. Soviet scientist Pavel Gurov defects to the West to help Quatermass stop what they now believe to be a machine of alien origin, a device programmed to seek out humans and gather what it wants with its powerful beam. Quatermass begins to formulate a plan to stop the alien machine by fooling it into firing its beam at a chosen location. But he needs the help of old people - the only ones not drawn towards the alien beacons which were planted all over the world thousands of years ago
