In the movie Expelled with Ben Stein, Darwinist Michael Ruse suggests the outlandish theory that life began from non-life by a bunch of chemicals getting together "on the backs of crystals." That theory is a much greater leap of faith than suggesting a higher intelligence - an intelligent designer - created life. Ruse is not engaging in science here, although he purports to be a scientist. He is engaging in an ideology or worldview called Naturalism, which takes just as much faith, if not more, than Christianity to sustain its beliefs.

are you sure he's not referring to crystal math? obviously you must be smoking it to believe Ruse's explanation

    1. I'm not an atheist.

    2. The separation of amino acids is very different topic than the one I was discussing. It's not even abiogenesis proper.

The reason why Crystals are a viable explanation is because they're a simple natural structure that has (a) recursive self-replication, and (b) differential mutation. To understand the recursive self-replication of crystals, you'd at least need to have taken enough abstract algebra to understand the theory of symmetry groups, which is typically a 3rd year college-level course. So unless your toddler can do that, your post is just stupid.

at least it shows a thoughtful hypothesis, as apposed to "god always existed for no reason, and HE started it all".

Your toddler is very unfortunate to have you as a parent.

You fools do realize that there's more to the explanation than what Ruse said, right?
