The 2006 Etchells North American Championship was hosted by the New Bedford Yacht Club and the Etchells Buzzards Bay Fleet 19.
A South wind blowin' 20-25 with gust to 35 set the stage for the final day of racing in a series that was still up for grabs. Add in some rain and a 6' chop, and you had a very exciting and challenging day indeed with 12 boats experiencing equipment failures before the day was over.
Congratulations to Reigning Etchells North American Champion, Jud Smith who made it three in a row. South Dartmouth's Rob Hitchcock and crew were awarded the Corinthian Cup as the top finishing amateur skipper and crew. Rob finished an impressive 6th overall.

Brand new sets of sails were turned into great club racers that day. I remember seeing brand new kites hoisted and exploding into colourful streamers at the top of the mast - not on our boat of course.

That was a crazy day. I was out there racing on GBR1252. On the second beat, someone on board said "if they send us down again, they'll kill us all!"
