Violins and Bases attempts to recreate the invasion of Iraq by replacing U.S. Tanks and Blackhawks with violins, rushing on a highway heading to Baghdad. The violins are in no way an attempt to tone down the aggressive nature of the Invasion of 2003, but rather to reflect on the idea of "the Music of War". The "Swords of Victory" monument is replaced by violin bows, so one can hear the sounds created as the swarm of "Violin-Tanks" speeds below them.
U.S. military bases are marked by "Basses" scattered around the map of the Middle East, in Iraqs neighboring countries Turkey, Saudi Arabia, the Persian Gulf, U.A.E., Kuwait, Bahrain, Qatar, and Jordan.
All "Violence" points towards Iraq, however, it is out of Iraq that the refugees must flee.
The current war in Iraq has internally displaced 2.7 million people, left 2 million people as refugees without a land, and killed 1 million people.
Violins by Jacob Lessard, Bass by Angelo Ruscitti, Produced by The Narcicyst and Sundus Abdul Hadi
