This shows how wood reflects light differently according to which direction the grain is laying. As I turn the table top two points of the star appear to change color in relation to the two adjoining points of the star. The star Lazy Susan's I make do the same thing, some more so than others, depending on the type of wood in them. To show this effect I only have one light on, off to the side overhead.

  • I read in a university paper that things like this trick the eye and the brain , somthing to do with how the brain controls and percieves images. This can and has been replicated in only black and white images, aswell as color.

I am sure you are also correct in how the wood grain reflects light too, I just thought i'd note what I also read at the univesity. Pretty nice table I might add! I'm just learning inlay, and only hope to be half as good as that! Cheers, IC.

  • That's given an inspiration when doing my next flooring project
