Just got a Sony HDTV and the bdp-570....
I keep my CD's, DVD's and Blu-rays MINT because when I buy them I make a back-up (first thing!) and store the originals. My gal loves a few of my bluray movies and a few of the standard movies I have on my hard drive..but I don't want to give her the originals b/c she's not good about keeping them in mint condition and the hard drive movies need to go to disc b/c I don't want her using my PC.
So...I have made back ups of the bluray discs for her and copy's of my other dvd's in the Avchd format using TsMuxeR and ImgBurn. I just bought her the BDP-S470 and we watched a few movies last night. I connected to the internet for the first time and did an update.
NOW 2 WEEKS OF MAKING COPYS FOR HER DOWN THE DRAIN BECAUSE SONY PUT SOME KIND OF BLOCK IN THE FILMWARE THE BLOCKED AVCHD or something! IM NOT A PIRATER, I MADE COPY'S OF MY BLURAYS!!!
Can I roll back the filmware update or copy my blu-rays onto dvd another way without buying a $300 bluray burndrive for the PC?
This is way too controlling of them.... It's reminds me of buying a car, then you get on the road and find that they will only let you drive on SOME roads some times....... not cool!!! Can anyone help??

  • dont you hate when people swallow and you hear it wtf that makes me so mad

  • Why the hell do you make back ups? that just seems to defeat the entire purpose of buying the blu-rays in the first place.

  • @emuholic Because Sony sucks balls and is forcing the blank Blu-Ray discs to be way over priced otherwise we would all just make a backup directly to a blank Blu-Ray.

This was one of the reasons I never ever wanted Sony to win the HD war.

  • @emuholic You are 100% correct, but that allies to standard video also. I've shot several non-profit videos and they average around 35 gig's each. Either way, you still got to crush it down to make it fit. There are new algorithms to make it happen. I can't do the math but I sure it works. Sony wouldn't be upset if it didn't work. There are billions of dollars in duplication fees at stake if this catches on.

  • @Sirrom0206 if you think the extras are the only things bloating the size of the bluray movies, you're wrong. the actual bluray film is huge in size, lots at 25 or 40GB in size. You will sacrifice lots of quality in image to reduce it to 4GB to fit on a DVD.

  • @emuholic There was a codec where you can copy blu/HD dvd's to regular DVD's and they retain their Blu/HD resolution. In short you copy HD/Blu on to a regular DVD at regular blank DVD prices. Hollywood discovered this early last year. They hate paying the expensive Blu/HD royalties. Hollywood's plan is to print short HD/Blu subjects on normal DVD's (Movies only-no out takes or alt endings).
