Le sheet music (piano) - http://www.mediafire.com/?q41vvcklr906ebr

About the sheet music: The PDF above contains a complete transcription of the piano introduction, solo and vamp. And this time, all the expression and tempi markings are in plain ol' english! Apologies for the rhythmic and metric approximations, but as a freely improvised solo, I never expected to have to write it down, haha! Anyway, it's not as hard as it sounds in the beginning and I truly hope to hear of some success stories after a bit of practice. I also kept the expression markings and dynamics pretty sparse so as not to impose my interpretative preference. Make it your own! Even if you don't play piano, if you can read music download it anyway! Score reading is fun!

First things first, the video uploader really butchered the quality of the original mp3, so if you dig what you're hearing, definitely download the mp3 below for a proper experience!

Le Mp3 (sans intro) - http://www.mediafire.com/?2zsvss59dd0wcdr

So what is this thing called pony jazz? There certainly is a lack of it in the fandom from what I have seen. If any of you noticed, though I have been composing almost exclusively in a classical idiom, one of my truest and deepest musical infatuations is with jazz and especially, "nujazz." That is precisely what you are going to find here.

The theme is simple: a musical anthem to the most underrated city in Equestria and the REAL city from which it got its name. The sentimental piano solo intro represents the old city of Applejack's recollection before things pick-up with a bit of funkier modernity around the halfway mark. I highly recommend headphones, a good subwoofer, and much relaxed head nodding. All instruments with the exception of the trumpet and saxes were played (through VST instruments) by yours truly. This is something different and I really hope you guys enjoy "Old Hat, New Manehattan."

The awesome picture of the dapper suited six was drawn by Rautakoura and can be found here: http://rautakoura.deviantart.com/art/The-Mane-6-Suited-and-Suave-275054753

  • So I know i'm not the first to ask, but sheets plox? :D

  • @andyllamanipl I just threw the link to the piano score into the description. Enjoy!

  • Do you have the sheet music for the piano part?

  • @spamholderman Would that be just the vamp you wanted, or the piano solo introduction as well? I'm working on both but I confess, I'm currently distracted by other projects, oof.

  • @spamholderman Disregard that old response, I just transcribed the complete piano part. Check the description!

  • LOVING this composition! Is that the chord used for the MLP FiM theme song starting at 2:48? FUCKING GENIUS!!!!! You sly motherfucker!! There is one significant thing I would like to bring to your attention, the title. This is not Nujazz, it more in the field of Classical Jazz. Not sure if you were meaning to define its (sub)genre or if it is just a title and Im looking too deep into this. Seriously, great piece. Also I see what the fuck you did there adding the sound of a record playing

  • @vidamate09 Well thanks for listening and commenting! However, nujazz is defined pretty vaguely (as are most things in the jazz idiom, I find.) "An amalgamation of jazz with other styles such as funk, soul, hip hop and/or electronic music, etc." While I would definitely refer to my effort here as "straight-ahead" so to speak, nujazz isn't really all that specific a term. Still, glad you're digging deeper and SO glad you dig!

  • @vidamate09 Not trying to nitpick but this is definitely not straight jazz. Listen to the bassline and the drums. Those are definitely much more hip-hop/funk leaning and they're what make this track what it is.

  • This music sounds like something I'd hear from The Sims (the first one that is), and I love it!

  • @TimbukTurnip Pretty cool that you can see music.

  • 2:39 was one of the city theme's from little big planet. :D

  • This song is absolutely awesome. The calm lead in is definitely my favorite part.

I'm a long-time fan of Big Band music (this is more Big Band than Jazz, but you're the artist). I only have one problem with this song: Applejack and Pinkie Pie and their sound bites at the beginning of the song. No offense to the music at all, but the sound bites you chose for their voices are low quality, especially Pinkie Pie's (it is ear-piercingly loud). Could you quite possibly release an mp3 without them?

  • Jazz has always been like the cream of music to me.

Having both jazz and ponies makes me feel gâté.

    C'est excellent ! :)

  • @Yourenigma Thaaaaanks :D

  • SHEET MUSIC ALL MY BITS YES YES YES
