Former Mayor David Dinkins presented awards at the New York Junior Tennis League (NYJTL) Spring Kickoff Celebration on Thursday, April 15, 2010, at IS 204 (36-41 28 St., Queens, NY, 11106) from 6-9 pm. The Celebration celebrated the 40th Anniversary of NYJTL as well as honored 17 individuals from all five New York City boroughs that made a difference in their communities.




More than 360 attendees parents, participants, principals, teachers, coaches, public officials and board members enjoyed refreshments, music, QuickStart Tennis videos, and rotated through vendor booths represented by each of NYJTL FREE programs: Aces Clubs After-School Program, Advanced Training Program, Arthur Ashe Educational Guidance Program, Community Tennis Program, Schoolyard Tennis Program (STP) and NYJTL Alumni Association. Additional vendors included Jose Rodriguez of USTA Eastern, Kirk Anderson of USTA National and QuickStart Tennis, Barbara Petito of Eastern Tennis Umpires Association (ETUA) and USTA Eastern Umpires; and EmblemHealth, title sponsor of the annual EmblemHealth Bronx Open, a $100,000 ITF Womens Professional Tennis Tournament.

One-hour informational workshops, raffle prizes and gift bags were provided as well as a performance by crowd-favorite Brooklyn Collegiate Middle School Mighty Lion Drum Line.

The awards ceremony was hosted by Jim ONeill, NYJTL President, and featured presenters David Dinkins, Former New York City Mayor; Tory Kiam, NYJTL Board of Directors Vice President; Tim Heath, USTA Eastern President; and Kirk Anderson, creator of USTA QuickStart Tennis.
