Iceland would very much like to join the EU. Not because the country is especially enthusiastic about Europe, but in order to rapidly introduce the Euro. It's hoped the common currency will help Icelanders to solve their economic problems.But the people of Iceland may end up putting themselves out of the running. On 6th March 2010, Icelanders are set to vote on what's known as the Icesave Agreement. The referendum will decide whether the state, as agreed by parliament, will pay off its debts to Britain and The Netherlands. There is much hanging on an amicable settlement: If the island pays back its international loans, it increases its chances of getting the Euro in the foreseeable future.

DO NOT JOIN THE EU! It's fuck'd. I know you guys had your economic crisis, but you will recover and learn from it, Denmark and Sweden experinced the same way back. EU don't respect the supremacy of the member state. And think about how good Switzerland and Norway are doing and the are NOT mambers! When Iceland recover it's expected to pay more than it gets from the EU just like the other nordic countries that are members. Resist we all you got. Cheers fellow Vikings from Denmark

Joining the EU would be a big mistake. A warning to the Icelanders: Once you're in, you pay for it bigtime. You lose the right to rule your own country, and within years you'll have to pay a significant contribution.

Values like Freedom and Democracy don't matter for EU. For example, when the result of a referendum is "wrong", the member state will be forced to vote again till the vote in the "right" way..

Iceland, you'll recover from the crisis. But you won't recover from joining the EU..

Hell NO do not join EU. Cut the EU off from Iceland. When Iceland gets tied in with the EU it will fall totally; guaranteed. Iceland.. stand on your own feet... stand your ground and be self sufficient.. then make your OWN rules.. DO NOT BE WEAK! Valhalla!

If I was an icelander I would say no to joining the EU if offered.

Being outside the jurisdiction of EU gives Iceland a lot of bussiness-opportunities that they would otherwise not have.

You do not get richer by joining the EU.

No more food is produced and you dont magically get a new microwave oven or big screen TV.

As Iceland is big in fish and this is tightly regulated by EU. Iceland will have no say about how much they can take from the seas.

Decision lies with Iceland not me.
