@ryanathan2 hi, depends on the saw. Used to have something called a Diamond fret saw which was unique. Notice he has a cut on his finger which is odd. For a machine powerful enough to weigh against a bandsaw you'd need a Hegner. Thing about a fret saw is that they cut on the downstroke and pull up so it's near impossible to even cut yourself. A bandsaw will pull your fingers in and slice them off with the momentum. kev.

@ryanathan2 No, a scroll saw is not a substitute for a bandsaw. One way to look at it is that the smallest thing you might cut on a bandsaw is the biggest thing you could cut on a scroll saw. They are two distinctly different machines.

Hello and thank you for this video. I am beginner, looking for a possibly used scroll-saw, and my budget is limited. I will very much appreciate if you could give me an idea - where this model can be bought from (on-line?), what the cost is, and what is the model number exactly. Many thanks in advance.

@LaPrimavera2006 You can see full specifications, including the model number, on this scroll saw on the manufacturer website. Go to general.ca site and serach for excalibur EX-21 e.
That will help you find a retailer in your area that carries the tool.

I am interested in a scroll saw for very thin wood - about 1/16 - hardwoods. I am curious as to the thinnest blade that this saw would be able to handle.
