  • @danielleamormendez It warms my heart to hear him use cuss words to express his frustrations and later his joy when sounding that first G after his surgery. Rafael Mendez videos are normally godly; I really enjoyed his human side :)

  • So to clear a few things up here.... I'm his granddaughter. He didn't usually cuss like this ( I apologize), all of his CD's have been remastered and are now available through Summit Brass at Arizona State University, Rafael Mendez Foundation and Library, and "Sonic Genius" I'd like to know more about your grandfather's relation to Poppy. Thanks.

  • @teflonde You would think from his professional videos that he would not have cussed like a sailor.

  • no la podrian traducir para los que no sabemos ingles.......

  • This, and the part 1 vid, are incredible.

Wow, the worst hardship to have befallen a trumpet player.

Fellows, please be situationally aware of what and who's around you while playing your instruments. Don't let ANYONE fuck up your playing career due to somebody bashing into you. Some idiot drunk FuckTard injured Maynard's lip. Don't just trust the people in your surrounding area. Guard your lips with your LIFE.

  • my kinda video! thanks, eric

  • Well not now, he's been dead for 27 years. Although even though he's dead he still plays better than some living trumpet players.

  • I'm a little confused. He can play now?

  • I also found a 78 that simply says "Rafael Mendez Souvenir Record", but I haven't played it. Have no idea what it is. According to my grandfather, Rafael gave him all the rights to this material as well. I don't think my family realizes what they threw away, but I guess things like this happen. The album I'm referring to was recorded on Catalina Island when I was 6 years old. Great memories. R.I.P. Rafael.

  • My grandfather (recording engineer / producer) was a good friend of his. Before Rafael died, he left my grandfather a whole bunch of master recordings. Unfortunately, my family discarded the boxes containing this material when he died. As an engineer myself, it's heartbreaking. I do still have the album they produced in 1978, but not the masters. One day I will re-master this material from the best discs I have.
