Inventor Alan Burns has his idea with Seapower Pacific.
In brief: hypalon bladders are affixed to a piston that moves inside a tube secured to the seabed. As the ocean swell ebbs and flows the bladders rise and fall providing momentum to the piston. It subsequently pumps high pressure sea water to an onshore desalination plant.

  • How is that "fucking with the ocean"? Your not introducing anything new to the habitat that will harm it in any way... Should we just keep burning gasoline to "fuck" with the atmosphere?

  • @pieiscool12353 - Easy to sit on our asses and criticize someone who's "actually trying" to do something.

    Wheres your idea?

  • Looks like a disaster waiting to happen when a hurricane comes along or any high seismic activity.

  • Use vacuum desalination

  • Use low pressure to desalinate water

  • Believe it or not, I had this idea a few years ago. I even drawn it on a piece of paper. now they are developing it. I could be rich if i had patented. never mind

  • Please excuse me for the question but i'm not from this place...hum: where does the energy comes from? Are they pumps who pump the water inside a turbine, or inside the cylinders we have a magnetic field that changes with the motion of the waves and generates electricity?

  • @pieiscool12353 This is an alternative to oil spills in the ocean.

  • Ceto run by Carnegie Wave Energy (CWE.asx) is in the mid-stage of a commercial scale demonstration facility. Should be finished in the middle of 2011. Very interested to see the data it will produce.

  • @pieiscool12353 what does hydroelectrics and desalinazation have to do with solar energy? I can see how this would alleviate the need to drill for oil which would limit oil spills. Where were you going with this comment?
