Tucked away in a corner of the OU Medical School complex, the Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation, better known as OMRF, is one of the leading medical research institutes in the nation. And with heart disease reigning as the number one killer of American adults, both male and female, it's no surprise that one of the major areas of research for the institute is a prime cause of heart disease; Cardiac Ischemia. Cardiac Ischemia is a general term that can refer to any number of condtions that stops blood flow to the heart. These conditions include, but aren't limited to thrombosis, embolism, and vasoconstriction.
