Mali Sadio

Practice for Mmus Performance. Been playing for 7 months. Taught by Kadialy Kouyate. This tells a story about a friendship between villagers of Bafoulabe and a hippopotamus in Mali. A white hunter killed the hippopotamus bringing a tragic end to the friendship. It's a metaphorical song symbolises the separation from a loved one or country. "Mali" means hippopotamus. The intro is in the style of Toumani Diabate, then it switches into the version played by Kadialy Kouyate

Is it very difficult learning the Kora? I have often thought about giving it a go...

@jimlav1 It's not too difficult once you get into it. You should definitely give it a go. Usually you learn the basic ostinato riff first, then the embellishments : )
