I am a big fan of Carol Dweck! I gave some 13 yr olds a copy of her first chapter from her book 'Mindset'. They loved it and really enjoyed debating the issues surrounding intelligence. If you deliver assemblies this is a really great topic to challenge students and cause them to reflect.

Sounds like some one has been told they were smart their entire life and has never had to apply themselves. College VS reality. You're only special and accepted when you learn to over come obstacles and solve problems, not because you spent a ton of money on a degree.
