Theatrical traile for the 1959 William Castle horror programmer, THE TINGLER, starring Vincent Price. A master of ballyhoo and promotion, Castle's horror films were unremarkable chillers that relied heavily on a "gimmick" to insure their box-office success. This time around it was "Percepto", which amounted to attaching buzzers to select seats in the theatre which vibrated when the titular creature was supposedly loose in the theatre. The only way to fend off the the creature was, of course, to scream....

  • I was born in 1952. In my life, this was the scariest movie I ever saw. Supposedly some of the seats in some theatres were wired with some kind of electrical shock deal. I don't think that was the case with me. But I remember being scared of the dark for years after this movie. I knew it was "only a movie" but I think I was more fearful of what my mind could conjure -- afraid of my own imagination.

  • SOUNDS LIKE A PORNO

  • my last name is tingle rha

  • The tingler was a percussor of what women always knew...THE VIBRATOR

It sent chills down their very . . .

  • I am so going to remake this movie!!!!

  • This movie makes "House On Haunted Hill" look like "Snow White"!

They never made another film like this one because it was FREAKY.

There is even hints of the Dr., (Vincent Price) using LSD to produce

hysterical FEAR to "bring out the Tingler" from its hiding place!

Whoever wrote this story was a NUTJOB but its guaranteed to

creep you out, even if you start laughing at it at first.

The film escalates from weird to bizarre to TERRIFYING.

Its a truly great horror flick, even in B&W.

  • @ysbaddaden2003 But that would only make Bat Man "pissed" off!~....lol

    I see yoururinalogy, however.

  • I saw this in the theater!...People actually went crazy because some of the seats had random vibrators that basically caused pandemonium and heart attacks!

It looks dated now but back in 1959; it was the scariest thing ever!~

Vincent Price is the horror genius! Along with William Castle!

  • Happy 100th Birthday Vincent Price, you are missed.

  • @adopaz Next time you become scared of the dark, do what I do, wear a pair of dirty underwear over your head and the monsters will NEVER harm you...

  • I was born in 1990 and I have seen this movie few years ago and I loved it!
