Honey Bee Swarm Capture - 12 days later

This is the hive from my swarm capture of 10 April 2007. The bees were put into a single deep brood chamber with fresh foundation to build on. Twelve days later, the brood chamber is completely built out and the bees were showing signs of overcrowding. I took this video just prior to adding a second deep hive body, also with new foundation to build on. Five minutes later, they were all back inside taking advantage of their new living space and starting work again.

The music just seemed to fit. The bees are surprisingly gentle as long as you don't block the entry way to the hive. I used to put a chair off to the side and would just sit and watch the comings and goings.

Not so much communist, as communal, like an Israeli Kibbutz. In a hive, everyone works (except for the males (drones) and they're pushed outside to starve every winter. It's the utlimate justice, you don't work, you don't eat.

I used to do that too in my country I had honey bees (hives) and i think this is the job that i enjoyed the most.

Now I miss those days being beekeeper.
