April 28, 2011 - (Four days after rough surf) Found a garbage bag with something seriously dead in it. Couldn't open the bag; not into the dead stuff. But it smelled rank and there were maggots all along the underside of the bag. The bag was also very heavy. Never in my life have I seen maggots on the beach. And exactly who is bagging up dead animals that wash ashore? Is there an agency that tracks this? The entire beach smelled fishy. Seaweed was stacked high and hide much from the eye.

  • The Pensacola Beach Island Authority uses those black bags to pick up dead wildlife and sealife. Most goes unreported....I am so glad you found this. I have been yelling to everyone I can about this, ever since I started witnessing it last year ...BP will not be held accountable if there is no evidence, but if the evidence is disposed of, then PB looks beautiful to tourists!...Thank you for sharing!
