They are good on ME1! On Insanity biotic shutdown moves are a necessity on Mass Effect 1 (for locking down entire rooms of people).

Think like this then. "Will there be cooldowns, how much will everything damage. how long will the stuff exist, How much will I actaully use it. Will it be very usefull on boss fights..?"
