  • brilliant cars

  • i had one of these, it was really fast for its time, though it woud thrw you to the left under hard throttle, i also had mine up rated, but the fuel economy was crap after.

took mine to 130mph, no problem, do not know were they got 126mph from, because it was still pulling like a train, by todays standards it is nothing special, but them it was king, and not much could compete, even the golf GTI was not match.

  • dude it says on the vid 125mph, so who it be 115, makes not sense, also mine was done by turbo technics,so it was faster than standard.

  • @redlands43 130mph on the speedo is not 130mpg really, 115mph is more like it

  • Pity they rusted like hell!!!

  • yes you are correct there was 3 prototypes made

  • I have always liked the Montegos, whether it be an MG, VandenPlas, 1600 HL or a standard 1300. A very slick and elegant design. The instrument panel and controls were well thought out with everything logically positioned.

I like the way the windscreen wipers remain visible when in use and then disappear below the windowline when switched off. You never see that on cars these days.

  • great cars, only let down by weak build quality ,not enough care to fitting windscreens etc, mine leaked like a sieve, wear on flywheel ring gear till it looked like a boiled egg(put it in gear and rock it to start),still to find a more comfortable car in 2011,breather pipes were always getting gunged up with condensation, which left a trail of white smoke, power hose them did the trick.it was as good a car as any of the time, austin rover spec was good

  • Wonderful tassled brogue shoe shot at 7:11 - probably sourced from his local branch of Freeman Hardy & Willis (Buttermarket Ipswich)

  • @38wd

I really don't know. There's every chance that there was though. So many cars do get made at the prototype stage but don't get any further due to cost/business case/competition with other products etc.

  • I also love this video I keep coming back for more re-plays

  • @lewis72 wasn't there not 3 prototypes Mg Montego estate made? or am I wrong
