A fantastic version by the writer of the song! John D. wrote it and recorded it first in 1960. Here he is seen performing it for BBC-2 (John D. Loudermilk & his music, 1984).

  • I'm 58 and the first song I can I can remember being hooked on was Angela Jones. I loved it and I've loved every song of his that I've heard since. This is awesome, thanks for posting it. Look for him singing Break my mind, he's a lot older than here and still incredible

  • Break My Mind by JDL is amongst my YouTube-uploads too... See & you shall find!

  • Wonder if there's any footage of the original song with J.D. Loudermilk when it came out... ???

  • It came out in 1960 and charted nowhere in the US, local or nationwide. Sales must have been very little. Only charted very modestly in Australia in '60, but only because of the B-side.

So chance of 0,00001% that a 1960 footage ever has been made.

  • He performed this song tonight as he was being inducted into the North Carolina Music Hall of Fame. I was able to spend some time with him after the performance, he is an amazing man!

  • Thank you

  • NICEEEEEEEEEEE

  • David Lee Roth paid his respects to this wonderful song with his version. There's never anything to top this version, but his version is worth listening to if you love guitar.

  • This version sounds odd when you're familiar with the better-known ones, especially the Nashville Teens. The way he runs the lines together kind of throws you, when he doesn't pause in the expected places. But...it's his song, and he can do it any way he wants to!

  • WAY 2 GO JOHNNY D. YOUR VERSION IS THE CAT'S ASS-HEAD-TAIL-FEET AND IN BETWEEN.ROCK ON-BROTHER-ROCK ON.
