Yeah, more copyright stuff. But, this was bugging me until I finally finished it. So, here you go.

I should stem the tide now. I write for a living, I know all about intellectual property, and I've been plagiarized many times to boot. Personally, I don't care because when it comes down to it, they still come to me when they want quality. I got a video gig at Expert Village because the paintball community TOLD THEM to hire me, and isn't that the true power of the information age?

the point is that in the real world, I make something, I sell it, I make something else to sell. Somehow, these people have it in their heads that they can sell and resell the same product for 75 years, and never be touched. That makes about as much sense to me as, say, a donut maker telling me the same thing. So, you get my metaphor. A really tasty one too, I might add.

I also understand that the intellectual property laws are in place for a reason. But I also have a working understanding that the laws, as they are now, are broken. And this is a video making fun of the serious business type people who sit around tables and decide that some 10 year old kid putting a Linkin Park song in a video he made using World of Warcraft and "Win Movie Maker" is causing the band financial loss.

75 years plus the lifetime of the artist means we can't openly be inspired, or seek critique, or educate ourselves. If the Renaissance masters had to deal with this we wouldn't have the Mona Lisa. Copyright law needs an overhaul.

  • Some think you did it, some think you were framed, I don't know JB's opinion about this but it doesn't seem like he's pointing the finger at anyone.

  • I can't make anyone believe anything, especially when they're already convinced of the "truth" in spite of all evidence pointing to the contrary. All I can do is be a voice of reason, and hope my voice is heard.

  • Is there any way to report a troll? I wish there was an abuse for trolling

  • No, youtube's official stance is "just ignore them, they might go away." And there's no rule against being a jerk to someone, unfortunately. You can report them for harassment, but that's almost as useful as a campaign promise in an election year.

  • Wow you killed more then 2 birds with 1 stone (birds being companies or w/e) and damn I want a donut now. >> I feel sorry for the cops. LOL

  • I sent this video to the head honcho of youtube himself. Let's hope he listens. If it's youtube's fault then they may change things. if it's the recording "industry's" fault, then youtube can file charges against the record companies.

  • But still, it says on the back of CDs and LPs that you're not allowed to copy them. But then why did all these companies to make cassette recorders, CD rippers, mp3 players and other devices for copying music? Hmm, I wonder if I ask the employees at WMG if they used to record songs on to cassettes they'd say yes? Does that make them hypocrites, oh no, they make the laws.

  • So the Artist or Band writes the song and the record company does...? Makes CDs? I mean I can make Mp3s on the computer, so why bother with the record company? Oh wait they put songs on the radio, because they own the stations. Hmm, so the record companies do fuck all in the long run, they just own other companies.
