I used a common glass reed switch. As I was using electronic ignition, the current through it was very small, less than 10mA.
As I didn't run this setup for much time, I can't tell you life expectancy of the reed switch ,but at such low currents, should be within several hundred hours.
The engine ran flawlessly on this setup.
