We live in a desert. Grass lawns aren't natural here, and overwatering them wastes water and sends harmful pesticides, fertilizers and pollutants into our storm drains, which empty to our bays and ocean. Check out this short video of the overwatering at Liberty Station in San Diego that occurred on Tuesday, May 3, at 9 a.m. We tried a couple of times to talk with the landscape manager regarding the overwatering at Liberty Station--both about this specific incident and historical patterns--but have seen little to no action from the team. The sad reality is that we import nearly 90% of our water from outside of the region, and Liberty Station chooses to waste that precious resource on non-native lawns and paved sidwalks.
