Today was a great day! I was finally able to hop aboard Cody after a hugeeeee break due to weather. We've been lunging and working from the ground consistently, but haven't been able to get in much riding time :( Luckily St. Valentine gave us some amazing weather today and I was able to climb aboard my valentine! Our main goal was just getting used to riding again and keeping collected - Cody was feeling good being able to stretch his legs and have pretty weather :D. Initially I started with a wall cam set-up, which later turned into my mom coming over and kind of moving the camera a bit to keep us in frame :) Sorry it's so hard to see because it wasn't very zoomed in, but i was happy just to get it recorded! Throughout our ride is was feeling really unbalanced in the saddle, and chalked it up to having such a long break from riding. However, after I hopped off and started untacking Cody I discovered I broke the biggest rule of riding - not checking my girth before getting on! It was way loose - no wonder my saddle and I were all over the place!! Also, I left my boots at home, thinking they were in the tack shed - thus I was stuck riding in Uggs - eghhh :(. I had no heel to urge Cody - so if it looks like i'm kicking super hard or moving my legs a lot - that's why. Finally, at the end of our ride, I tried to ask Cody for a turn on the forehand from his back. This is something we've been working on from the ground for quite a while - and while he's nowhere near perfect, I decided to see how he would respond to my asking. As you can see, he was pretty confused! I wasn't really asking correctly - so it's in no way his fault. By the end of it, I was just turning into a struggle to keep him still as I put pressure on his side to make him cross in the back. I decided I didn't want to frustrate him further, so we left it at that. You will see that on the first attempt he did cross over in the back once - and it looked great! Also, I left the origional audio in at the end so you could hear the crazy saw in the background! The owner of the ranch was doing some fence construction and using the saw on and off. Upon entering the arena Cody had a pretty big spook when the saw flipped on - resulting in him stomping all over my feet. I was a bit tentative about the whole situation, but pressed on. During our ride I hardly noticed the saw - and neither did Cody. I was very proud and super impressed with him :) Especially since the last time he dumped me onto the ground was because a saw went off @ the house across the street! He's really making great stride :D

  • Im sure if you take your timr and try hard youll make that show with him for sure. Keep at it. And youll both do great.

  • Did you ride her over the ground poles? Or lead? Either way that's great! Definitely post it! PLEASE!?! It's funny you guys just worked on goround poles bcs today my focus with cody was riding trot poles :) He did super well! I'll have to get work on a video. Yeah, our goal is to get to a show in April so i've been trying to be adement abt videoing to help us see how we look in order to reach our goal :D

  • Just some walking ground poles thats all. Some stuffs been happening this end for the last few weeks i got some footage but not sure what to do with it or wether or not to post it so well have to wait and see. I think youre right though watching yourselves together can help by the way very fun music you used.

  • Hah yeah it started out as a wall cam and then of course the day i don't need my mom she decides to help with filming! She kind of just shifted the camera a bit to keep us in frame. I was i was able to have it a bit more zoomed in but i didn't even think abt it :/ Oh really? What did you record? Some riding?!?! Yeah it was super helpful to see us on film. I havent really seen any footage since the last vid over summer. It gave me a feel of things we do well and things that need work lol.

  • I feel all special now. Well im glad it worked out for you to use it. Used a wall cam myself last week as well can come in handy at times.

  • Hah yeah i was so surprised that i forgot abt my girth! I am religious abt checking it - and sometimes am overkill hahha. Yeah i was surprised how well he did with the saw :) And of course i was happy to ride again! I love my boy :D Hah i thought of you when I was setting up the camera lol bcs you're always asking me abt vids of me and cody riding hah - and you suggested the wall cam :D

  • Its great hes improving so much with the saw. Tsk tsk about the girth. Still now youll never forget again and nobody got hurt so its all good right. I bet you were so happy beeing able to ride again. He as well.
