I remember in the late 50s early 60s driving with my family from West Covina to Huntington Beach for the day; we would sometime stop and eat a fried chicken dinner at Knotts Berry Farm and I remember that beach blvd was just a two line road all the way to the beach and the parking lot with its tall trees also across the street was the Aligator farm.......great place.......
the old days were fun. too bad i was never born in the 80's and other decades missing classics like corkscrew, mystery shack, and Knott's Bear-y Tales( But i went to the funhouse version)
My Mom Avelina and here Sister Lydia... were both working at the Chicken Dinner Rest. Mrs. Knott introduce my Father Ruben to my Mom Avelina short for (Avy) they were married.. then we were born... Mrs. Knott would carry my brother and I all around. We visited mrs knott in the trailer she lived on the lot. I believe we have old films when knotts would have parades around the city driving in little cars... We also got to meet the brady bunch back stage...
Watching your video I fell in love with this place all over again. Granted, it's not the same anymore but still it has that unmistakable atmosphere. Makes me proud to call that place home. =D
Great great videos. I had been to Knott's monthly (sometimes weekly!) from the mid 1940's until it was shamefully transformed into a money grubbing amusement park (okay, they "had" to compete). I've been back only once or twice since but just don't care for it as it is now. The memories of the REAL Knott's live in my memory and your video brings all the good memories back. Again, thank you!!!
Great stuff...thanks. I grew up in La Palma (Dairy Valley) and went to Knott's often. I was even on Engineer Bill in 1962! What a thrill to hear someone else remember that show! THANKS!!
I grew up in Santa Ana and this was the place to be. I remember the chicken dinners, the old Indian with terrific stories, and even a diorama of how Mrs Knott, as a little girl, came west in a covered wagon.
And then the Knotts died and their children turned the place into a money farm. Sad and tragic. People in OC were poor and couldn't afford D'land, so they could go to KBF and have fun.
But thanks you. I still have my horseshor nail ring and all those great memories.
I grew up in Riverside and would make a trip with my parents atleast once a year. I am 33 now and made a trip last year with my son. Things sure have changed, however you can always count on one thing. There will be a line a mile long to get dinner at MRS Knotts. Love the chicken and apple pie. I can't wait to get home and take my family there again and again and again.
