The rushing waters of the Chickies Creek swept away the Siegrist's Mill covered bridge on Siegrist Road during Tropical Storm Lee., pushing it downstream, where it landed on its side, said Lancaster County Commissioner Scott Martin. Built in 1885, it weighed five tons and straddled the border between West Hempfield and Rapho townships, Martin said. The county owns the bridge. • @glomor

by the looks of pics on wgal it look like it

  • Is it possible that the bridge can be salvaged and rebuilt?

  • @kstadden Correction: I was thinking of the Bridge Valley Road covered bridge, which is the next one upstream (or downstream, not sure...). We visited that one tonight and it's hanging on, but barely. I hope we don't lose more bridges.

  • I've also ridden over this bridge many times on my bike. SO sad. I hope we don't lose more of our covered bridges with this flooding...

  • My childhood back yard was to the right of this video - the corner of the bridge actually sat in our yard (they house was later moved due to regular flooding). We used to play inside it and climb on the beams underneath. So many memories swept away!!

  • This is so sad but I don't think it will be the only one at the rate the rivers and creeks are continuing to rise.
