This is a really great documentary, showing what happened to the mighty Soviet Aeroflot after 1991. It had broken into 400 smaller airlines, each with little money and struggles. Indeed, all of Russia was plunged into chaos after the USSR collapsed. This documentary has a fascinating first hand account and story from pilots, passengers, flight attendants and airport staff.

I worked for aeroflot as a pilot for 12 years. Everything in this movie is true. Corruption is terrible. We had people standing in the cockpit during flights when they paid crew cash for a ride without a ticket.

Russian pilots think that they are the best in the world and that the rest of the world just flies on automation all the time. Older pilots curse western airplanes because of their weak English.

The truth is Russian airline industry safety is about 40 time worse then that of the US.

@MEATYOKERRable At the time, russia was a husk of what it was, so there was most likely little enforcement of any law, and the pilots were underpaid, so I think it was great for him to get a 2000USD bonus just for landing an IL-86 at SVO instead of DME, both in moscow.

@Foxx1981 Thats rubbish, big Russian airlines like Aeroflot are just as safe as western ones. Just some small ones are not so safe, but still safer than many low cost carriers in Indonesia for example, and surely safer than car traffic.
