Puberty

Puberty is the time in a person?s life when their sexual and reproductive organs mature. This means their body becomes capable of creating babies. Long before any outward changes happen, special hormones begin to be produce inside the bodies of both girls and boys. These hormones affect many different things, including sexual development and growth.

With girls, puberty will start around age 11. A physical change will become obvious between ages of 11 and 14.

During this age girls experience change in: height, widening of hips, development of breasts, hair growth around pubic area and underarms, vaginal discharge, beginning of menstrual periods and period pain.

Boys enter puberty a little later than girls. The puberty starts around age 12 but physical changes are mostly not visible until age 13 to 16.
The changes for boys include: Change in height and muscle mass, increase in size of testicles and penis, hair growth in pubic area, legs, underarms on the face, voice change, ejaculation of semen during sleep also known as wet dreams, unwanted erections and breast changes.

While these are average ages for puberty, every ones body is different and changes might happen at different ages.

Most changes that happen during puberty are physical, but a person will also experience many emotional changes. These include but are not limited to: coping with a persons changing body, frustrations of feeling different, mood swings and energy changes.

Childhood obesity is known to start puberty earlier for girls.

Maximal adult height is achieved at an average age of 15 years for an average girl and 18 years for an average boy.

At age 13, both boys and girls are around same height and same weight. At age 15, an average girl will be 5? 3.7? tall and weigh 115 lbs. A boy at the same age will be 5? 7? tall and will weigh 124 lbs. At age of 18, an average girl will be 5? 4.2? tall and will weigh 128 lbs while a boy will be 5? 9.5? and will weigh 148 lbs.

A recent study shows that girls who start puberty earlier are also more likely to become sexually active sooner than their peers.

Acne is a very common condition, which teens struggle with during puberty. Teens get acne because of the hormonal changes that come with puberty. Teens whose parents had acne are more prone to have acne themselves. About 8 out of 10 people will have acne. For most people, acne goes away almost completely by the time they are out of their teens.

While puberty is a stressful time for a teen that is separating from their parents and becoming independent, it is also very stressful for parents who have to deal with an emotional rollercoaster of their child.

@Howtoguy552 Surely not a doctor here, but what you are explaining seems very natural for your age. There are a lot of resources online that you can read. Also don't be afraid to talk to your parents/guardian/doctor.

@SableRoze but its good to have weight on you though, being my size at the moment is very freakishly... scary. I keep eating and I really want to be around 115 or a bit more. but i just can't gain weight ): ... I thought eating fibre would help but it doesnt. idk what to do T_T!!

@babi3pink I'm maybe about five-foot-one. There's one girl I know of who is the same age as me (a bit shorter than me) who STILL weighs roughly about 100. We're both twenty years old. Now I'm about 135, which kind of bothers me a bit.... I used to be called Twig by my friends when I was in high school, I was so skinny! lol!

@SableRoze OH MY GOD! me too, im 18 and i weigh around maybe 100 pounds.. I feel so under developed because all of the girls have much bigger breast and ass and body weight than me. I'm only 5 foot 3 too -cry cry- I wish I was a bit taller.
