Wealthy Madison Avenue holiday shoppers were greeted Saturday afternoon by boisterous music and dancing, as 60 New Yorkers protested in a growing campaign to boycott Israeli diamond magnate Lev Leviev over his settlement construction in the Israeli-occupied West Bank. Participants performed a joyous dabke, a traditional Palestinian dance, and chanted to music from the eight-piece Rude Mechanical Orchestra. During the protest, Harvard professor Alan Dershowitz entered LEVIEV New York and emerged to jeers as he displayed a LEVIEV shopping bag to the crowd.

This man give massively to charity. He supports schools, soup kitchens, the UN, and orphanages throughout the world. Given that, the goals of these protesters will do far more harm than they realize. Preventing him from doing business will prevent him from continuing his charitable efforts. Those are on a massive scale while his work with Israeli construction companies are quite limited and the number of people effected, positively or negatively, by the settlement work he does is quite limited.

Alan Dershowitz is what's known as a cluster bomb liberal. There needs to be more of this sort of exposure.

The very serious issues of settlements and borders are reduced to the romanticized accusatory ramblings of Williamsburg hipsters and the "song and dance" politicization of a symbolic unity alien to those who actually face occupation. You all do the Palestinians a great disservice. Advance the movement against extremists, lest you fear their retort.

In the past Alan Dershowitz has claimed to oppose the illegal settlements. The guy is breathtakingly phony. The word is he was buying a cubic zirconia-studded watch for O.J. for Christmas.
