I had the pleasure to see, photograph and speak with Mr. Hoover several days ago. While at that event he told a story of this flight. He said the Philippine air force had chosen an aircraft for him to fly - bright and highly polished; during his pre-flight he noticed a sticking flap. He did a pre-flight of another and found the flaps in better working order. This is the aircraft you see flying here. He said a Phillipine general turned nearly white seeing his choice of this "dirty" aircraft.

@Dongskie2 believe it or not ,in some ways , the philippines were closer to our hearts than even great britain ,,maybe because it is so small and did so much for america in wwii ,  i lived near an airport as well in usa ,, that feeling i know well ,when a jet flew by ,,,, happy times,

Bob Hoover is a genius. I think he could fly the Sabre perfectly even with sticking flap. He's got flying in his blood.

@nitemagyk thanks for bringing back memories ,,, my dad worked around planes at the worcester mass. airport ,, he introduced me to the dc3 in 1947 ,,, and you know the feeling well of our passion and love of flight ,,

@kramerdc9 yes ,,, flying is the most graceful thing a person can do ,,, if done right ,,,,, no limit to the motion ,,, and bob went beyond what we know as grace ,,he was spiritual in a plane

@heettreet yup, either that or the gracefull flight it was, like he was safely and slowly testing its wings . then again it could have been the soundtrack too that greatly enhanced the elegance of the flight or was it the flight that enhanced the soundtrack. simply said, it was beautifull I'll say no more.

Miss my dad. Flew a P-51D with the Philippine Air Force, graduated PAFS class 53-B. He so loved aircraft and infected me with that passion even if the only flying I do these days is on commercial jetliners. At least I get lots of that.
