Dave White from NY SeaGrant came into the WWNY TV News 7 / WNYF Fox 28 morning show studios (located in Watertown, NY) to discuss what is on the minds of a lot of lake and river people. Low water levels.

According to Dave White, Lake Ontario is about a foot lower than average for this time of year and projects show that the water levels will remain lower than normal until August.

Lack of precipatation, including snow in the winter for key areas, makes a huge difference every year. A key fact is that 85 percent of water coming into Lake Ontario comes from the Upper Great Lakes, so it is down in all areas.

White says re-familiarize yourself with navigational charts and be aware of where you are boating. Also, make sure that your vessel is clean and clear to prevent the transport of potentially dangerous aquatic species before you head out onto the water ways.
