I made this video to show a few routes and strategies for Mad Space's random emerald hunting missions. This also serves as a demonstration that the level can be consistently completed in a reasonable amount of time, if you learn the hints well enough.

Note that I wanted to show what you could do in a Story mode run from a clean game file, which is why I always act as if I need to get the Iron Boots from the round meteorite's house first.

Also, I restarted just before completing each run except for the last run, just so I wouldn't waste video time with the stage clear screens. Of course, my restart times are a little faster than what I'd get if I'd actually completed the level. Just a little disclaimer there.

Run 1 - 1:31.55 (restart)
I first go to the round meteorite (the Spherical Planet), where the Iron Boots would be in a Story mode run. That gives the ability to break iron containers, like the one blocking the switch that activates the rocket. Even though the first emerald piece is at the top of the ARK (red light balcony), I have to do some planet hopping because the Spherical Planet only offers a way to get to the green Capsule Planet. Only from there can I get to the crater planet (the Holy Planet), from which I can take rockets up to the ARK.

(Note: It is possible to break out of the gravity of the Spherical Planet without the rocket; I've done it once with a Screw Kick from the top of the house, followed by gliding. I don't know how to do it reliably at all though.)

This is one of the less lucky setups you can get (assuming you know all the locations): going to the ARK, going back to the Spherical Planet, and then having to go all the way up to the ARK again.

Run 2 - 1:19.89 (restart)

"the top of the capsule" can refer to either end of the Capsule Planet. Fortunately, it turned out to be the first end that I checked. After that, I decided to go back to the starting platform to get the next hint instead of climbing back up the Capsule Planet.

There's a hint monitor at the yellow-light side of the starting platform, so I went there. To get to "huge paper weight", I go out from the red-light side of the starting platform. If I had read this hint while I was nearer to the top of the level, I could instead use the top end of the Capsule Planet as a reference point, since the red-light side of the starting platform points roughly toward there.

Run 3 - 59.59 (restart)

Here's another way to get to the Spherical Planet. For getting to the house, it's about as fast as the way I use in runs 1 and 2.

"red light balcony" is always just off the balcony if it's emerald piece 2.

Run 4 - 57.02 (restart)

"sticking star" is always on this platform if it's piece 2, while it's always on the Mystic Melody platform up at the ARK if it's piece 3 (like in run 1).

This run had good luck, but I made several small errors. My best time for this kind of run is 54.10, so this is close.

Run 5 - 1:12.59 (complete)

Total - 6:00.64
Average - 1:12.128

Finally, some nasty hints to watch out for if they appear for emerald piece 3:

"black container balcony" - Not where it says at all. It's on the tram moving along the rail on the side of the Holy Planet (the planet with a crater).
"blue light balcony" - You actually need to go to the yellow light balcony and then use the rocket there.
"three colored container" - Not where it says at all. It's on the moving tram that's moving along the middle of the Spherical Planet. It's also really annoying to get because of the controls there.

  • Great video dude it was well worth the watch! I can't believe I never found out about that shortcut spring on the capsule meteoroid, even though it was under my nose the whole time XD

  • Oh, I remember doing this. Yeah, Mad Space isn't too bad once you've memorized the hints. The problem I always had with it is that it'd throw me a hint I'd never seen before at the end of a good run attempt.

Also, those 3 broken clues are annoying as hell.

  • Very cool to see you uploading SA2B videos bro, also very nice gameplay on these runs, I like to see this kind of videos sometimes to get out of the *SSS state :P

    *Strict Speedrunning Syndrome

    Nice video ;D

  • very well done, but whose really going to talk the time to remember all the hints? I know I wouldn't, mainly because this is only really helpful in a SS dark story run and that would mean you also need to remember the hints the other levels. still really awesome to watch XD
