I don't agree that this song is about homosexuality. But that's not to say that he may be implying something in a sexy way. If anything I believe this song is part one of The Last of the Famous Int'l Playboys - romanticising crime.
The Last of the Famous Int'l Playboys its about the infamous Kray brothers, they were 1960 English gangsters which hes fascinated and I am too, You Are the Quarry album cover has him holding tommy gun
@wisesatyr72 Symptom, you mean, not form. And in the song I think it's refering to homosexuality. ie, a listed crime (as it was up until recently) or - 'well nevermind, nevermind...', something particularly unmentionable - rather than literally shop lifting!
why does everything Morrissey sings have to be about homosexuality?? maybe to you..Id rather think he writes in point of view of the disfranchised population which itd make much more sense..he has stated he does not want a literal meaning to all of his songs.. Im just stating that many people thinks shoplifting is a shameful/petty crime, that people sometimes failed to realized that person maybe going some heavy stress and feeling very lonely ..
@wisesatyr72 His lyrics are ambiguous like that, and it's different for everyone. Personally, I love it when Saint Morrissey writes about the romanticism of crime...it's quite nihilistic, and I lerv it.
well Elcore thinks this song is about having gay sex w/men..I mean if you're gay and morrissey is your idol I quess every song could relate to that but not for me..Morrissey wrote a dozen songs which has the name David in it and I could be thinking hes writing about me..
