This clip was filmed from my car (which I recently bought in Accra), and my girlfriend Gina filming. We had just left the North Industrial Area (Kaneshie), where I go a lot, because I need to get supplies for my pizza business.

The clip starts off as we are rejoining Nsawam Road, heading south towards Kwame Nkrumah Circle. We were headed to the Osu district, and I indicated at the circle to turn left, but it was busy that day, so I went straight, continuing down Kwame Nrkumah Avenue. I then turned left onto Liberia Road, where we continue to travel, passing the National Theatre. The clip ends in the Ministries area, as we waited to turn left onto Starlets 91 Road heading towards Ohene Djan Sports Stadium and the backstreets of Osu (this is shown in a separate clip).

  • Great view of the national theater

  • This was a really good clip, filmed by my girlfriend Gina, while I drove, and you would struggle to find a better summary of what central Accra is like other than this clip.

  • thanks for sharing ,

The traffic in Ghana serioulsy needs an update

  • One thing I have to say is that the new government, despite me being an opposition (NPP) supporter, are doing a lot of work on infrastructure & roads. I saw a great deal of evidence of this during my recent trip. They are continuing the NPP project for the Mallam Junction to Tetteh Quarshie Circle road, and they are extending the railway to Tema harbour. They are also updating traffic lights, etc, so things are happening there !

  • @YesYouCan31 Well if I am in an air conditioned car and riding slow in the traffic I am fine with it but when I am in a trotro where there are no air conditioners it is very much a hassle then.

  • the pizza business is a very smart move man

  • Well, if it were up to me, I would be fixing that coastal road, even if I had to drive through buildings with bulldozers, as they are holding up progress at Teshie/Nungua. Perhaps another road east, through Burma Camp and the southern tip of the airport perhaps.......

Would also work on Kaneshie, Mallam Junction, Spintex, etc........

Yes, that Bush Motorway - what did he say that time, "don't take the high horse, and claim the low road"........the peanut got that all wrong.....

  • @DepartureLoungeGuru hahahahaha mimmick it's name sake? Good point. I hope it doesn't either . A lot more needs to be done to get things right in Accra. The Dansoman main road for instance looked so horrible when I was there last year. The problem is if the money is acquired for these projects would it be used for the right projects?

  • Yes, the only good day is Sunday, driving around them really makes you think of what the traffic must have been like back in the day when congestion wasn't so much of an issue........the problem with the whole of Accra is too few arterials heading out of central Accra, and there is only really one main way out of Tema, a forty year old Motorway....

I just HOPE that Mallam junction is fixed when the G.W. Bush Motorway is opened......I just hope it doesn't mimmick it's namesake !

  • @Ghanapedia Accra Central seems to be always a busy place all days in the week. The traffic heading towards the Nkrumah Circle is hideous.
