Give the guy a break - refering to checklists is a must, maybe until you have 1000's of hours not hundreds. He had passengers and was taking the whole thing seriously, and thinking safety. nothing wrong with that.

Great Job! But you did, btw, overprime it quite a bit, which is why it ran so rough after startup.

yes i believe so. The POH says prime until fuel flow is indicated, which is what I did in this case, however I think only 2 or 3 seconds is really required.
