Voted "Cabrio of the Year" at the 2007 Geneva Motor Show, the Opel GT hits the roads of California for a press driving experience. The modern definition of an athletic two-seater finds its form in the new roadster. As archetypal characteristics of its genre, it has a powerful front-mounted engine, rear-wheel drive, a cockpit with sporty instruments and a tailor-made fabric roof. With a wide stance, sleek silhouette, long, front-hinged hood and short overhangs, the Opel GT boasts characteristic roadster proportions.
Why would GM preview a car in California if it will never be sold in the largest car market in the world? Are they going to bring Opel back to the States? Will Saturn be to Opel what Vauxhall is to Opel?

It was winter and we wanted European journalists to drive the car on some great roads with unique scenery without worrying about black ice and fog and the usual travel chaos that wintry weather brings. There are no current plans to bring Opel back to the U.S. market, however, Saturn will share technology and design with Opel/Vauxhall. Current examples include the Opel GT/Saturn Sky, Opel Vectra/Saturn Aura and the Saturn Astra, which will be launched in the U.S. later this year.
